Therapy for Teenagers

The clinical psychologists at East Sydney Psychologists understand that adolescents are vulnerable to anxiety, depression, stress and various other issues, just as much as adults. Teenage years come with many challenges and pressures, as adolescents undertake their journey from child to adult and face new life complications as they leave childhood behind.

Teenagers can also face a variety of other difficulties, including:

  • Body image issues

  • Bullying

  • Grief from the loss of a loved one

  • Mental health issues

  • Parental separation and divorce

  • Peer pressure

  • Procrastination

  • Self-esteem issues

  • Self-harm

  • Sleep problems

  • Stress from studies and exams

  • Trauma

Emotional and behavioural issues can put a strain on teenagers and their families. Navigating these challenges is often overwhelming and worrying. Our therapists take a caring and compassionate approach to counselling clients. They will build an authentic connection with your teenager that is trust-based, using the therapy sessions to help guide them through understanding and navigating the challenges they face.

Working together as a team in unity with you and your teenager, the psychologist will devise a treatment plan designed to meet your teenager's specific needs to assist with building resilience to adapt to the challenges and pressures of being a teenager in today's world.

Evidence-based treatment therapies will be tailored to meet your teenager's individual needs. They include:

  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)

  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

  • Compassion-focused Therapy (CFT)

  • Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT)

  • Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) Therapy

  • Schema Therapy (ST)

Therapy for children

Children are not emotionally immune to the anxieties and stresses of life but, unlike adults, they have yet to develop the coping strategies and emotional awareness needed to help them navigate them. At East Sydney Psychologists, our therapists are passionate about working with parents and their children to help them develop the right tools to assist in overcoming challenges.

Our experienced clinical psychologists understand that parents worry about what their children are struggling with and can be unsure about what to do when they display emotional and behavioural difficulties. With a history of working with children, our therapists are able to provide a safe, comforting and empathetic environment for your child's therapy sessions. Working collaborative with you, they will utilise a therapy plan for treatment that is evidence-based and tailored to your child's unique situation, presenting coping methods for both parents and children.

We can also arrange joint counselling sessions for siblings and families. Please contact us for further information.
